Ethereum Classic (ETC) appeared in the summer of 2016. After a hacker attack on The DAO project, during which approximately $ 50 million was withdrawn from a smart contract. In order to return funds to investors, it was decided to roll back the Ethereum blockchain before the attack. At this point, the community split and as a result of the hard fork, two coins were formed – Ethereum and Ethereum Classic.
It should be noted that Ethereum Classic (ETC) is completely similar to Ethereum, at the moment there are 116,313,299 ETC in circulation.
